While still in initial stages, this project is a collaboration with Goldsmiths faculty Aleena Chia and will produce a publication that interrogates the ways in which algorithmic opacities and information asymmetries result in unequal distributions of power, problematic public understandings of user autonomy, and false projections of information democratization. Through comparing the democratic participation EVE Online players to algorithmically generated publics on social media, this project synthesizes games studies research with critical algorithm studies.
